Alan currently volunteers as a facilitator for North Shore Restorative Justice Society and works for the Vancouver Park Board in Reconciliation and Decolonization. He draws from various intertwined communities of diaspora, decolonization, and social change movements for wisdom and guidance.

Born as a white settler of Eastern European ancestry (mostly from Poland and Russia), on the stolen homelands of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples, Emily is committed to being in solidarity with Indigenous folks on their own terms. She has many years of experience developing and managing social justice education programs, as well as her MA in Peace Education, which shapes her work.

Indra is the founder of the non-profit Incluskivity, and a large body of her work surrounds creating inclusive and psychologically safe spaces of belonging for the BIPOC community within snow sports and working with peers in the industry to cultivate understanding and create inclusive practices.

Being born and raised in and around “Vancouver,” her teenage years were defined by what felt like an inexplicable yearning for a sense of belonging. In university, while studying sociology, she was introduced to the term “double consciousness,” and the introduction of this concept became a catalyst for her passion in creating inclusive communities where people could feel a sense of unspoken belonging and understanding. With a better understanding of her own experiences and a lot of (ongoing) practices of unlearning, she is passionate about bringing folks along their own journey of inclusive community building through engaging facilitation and authentic storytelling that meets people where they’re at and takes them where they want to go.

Katya strives to live her life in service of people who similar to her long for community, belonging and meaning. She dreams of the world that centres healing, joy, and rest. Her pursuit of this dream led her to many amazing places and projects—prior to Bakau she has worked in event production, fundraising, and communications—all of which made her realize that she feels her best when she is collaborating and/or supporting others. Katya also spends a lot of her time scheming and mobilizing for social and climate action.

Katya is an INFJ, Enneagram 2 & Pisces in both Moon and Sun. In other words, just a big softy.

Being a mixed-race woman who’s lived in Japan, Ireland, Spain and Canada, Koshiki brings a vast number of lived experiences and unique perspectives to her work. She has volunteered with Amnesty International, The David Suzuki Foundation, and currently is a Board Member of the Vancouver Association of Restorative Justice.

She spent a year abroad in Spain during University interning at the European and Criminal Law Institute conducting research on the Abolition of the Death Penalty. Don’t get her started about Spain—she’ll never stop talking about it! When not talking about human rights, you can find her exploring different creative ventures - painting, writing, and brainstorming documentary and podcast ideas… just to name a few!

When she’s not working, you will find Kenza rewatching classic movies, making slow home-cooked meals or studying a new language. She is passionate about the discovery of cultures and human interactions through conscious, sustainable travel practices and respectful, continuous education.

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art & Design, the artist’s practice is greatly based on introspection, exploring personal and collective identity politics through performance, printmaking, painting and collage both analogue and digital. Simultaneously, the artist has developed a written practice, informed by her training in social sciences, gender studies, and the observation and interrogation of the cultural legacy of colonialism and imperialism in the Americas, specifically in Colombia and Canada.

Mary strives to prioritize sincere relationships, collaborative spaces for learning, and interrogation of power structures in her work. She’s worked in communications, business and strategic planning, event design and production, arts and culture funding, and anti-racism/anti-oppression advocacy and policy. She left a long career with the federal government in order to reclaim her health and well-being, and reconnect with her core values.

She tries to fill her days with ease and joy, through things like slow mornings, kneading dough for milk bread, and adding books to her ever-growing library holds list. She is always on the lookout for stories that explore queer and diasporic identities, experiences, and pleasure.

Mica completed her undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, and Biology at the University of Toronto. She is currently a Computer Science Ph.D. student at U of T with a Focus in Machine Learning Applications for Healthcare in the Wang Lab. She is grateful to continually be given opportunities to learn.

When not working on community projects, Nadine prances with delight towards patches of wildflowers, wears flower crowns and dresses that encourage twirling, and can be found hugging trees and embracing whimsy. She is a creative writer and has a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on communication and leadership.

Regina holds a BA in History and International Relations from UBC. She is a lover of languages and currently speaks four languages with her sights set on adding Italian as a fifth. When not working, writing, or scheming for collective liberation, you can find Regina resting with a cup of tea, a good book, and her dog curled up next to her.

Tyne is a racialized settler on the stolen homelands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, in what is currently known as Burnaby. Tyne holds a BA in Communication and completed a minor in Print and Digital Publishing. Prior to joining Bakau Consulting, Tyne worked as a communicator for mental health and community-engaged research organizations. Tyne also does communications, design and skill-share work for equity-seeking grassroots and non-profit collectives.

As a passionate critical thinker, Tyne also spends time reflecting on and critiquing gendered labour, digital privacy, inclusive design and identity politics.

Outside of work, you can find Tyne with loved ones and pets rewatching episodes of comfort shows.
